Many of you have asked where to get CO2 in Chambersburg, PA area

Valley National Gases LLC
http://www.vngas.com
2035 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg - (717) 264-2747

They are about 2 miles past Walmart on the opposite side of the street, before the bowling ally

Spoke to Dave there today, he said he can swap or refill your CO2 cylinders and that he did not refill every day, so you might have to leave your cylinders, otherwise go for the swap out and get one right away.

If you guys want to post other places, please do
Blaine

  I have exchanged bottles at ;
AIRGAS EAST
1469 SHEFFLER DR.
CHAMBERSBURG, PA
17201-4823

for about a year.  Last Fall I got 2 bottles that did not last very long.  I checked my system very carefully for leaks.  I did find one, so I assumed the fault was mine.  I attached a fresh bottle only to find it was almost empty.  I returned it the store only to find 2 more "light bottles".  One bottle had the outlet plugged tight with dried mud.  So be sure to clean & sanitize your bottles as well!
The "tare" weight of the bottle is stamped near the neck of the bottle.  Have your distributor weigh your bottles to be sure your getting what you pay for!

Hi

Went to get my bottle filled at work. Got a long lecture on exactly why you *do not* want to use bulk industrial CO2 with beer.

Hi

Short answer - there's may be stuff in there that will kill you.

Long answer - Industrial gas comes from a variety of sources. If you don't care about the source, the cost is the lowest (indeed we buy from the low bidder). The source *might* be a brewery (think ethanol) and you are fine. It *might* be a paint factory and yuck. I have indeed noticed white deposits from the CO2, so there is indeed something in there. Finding out exactly what it is in this or that batch would cost you $$$. That and once it goes in the tank, it mixes with the sludge from every other batch going back to the dawn of time.

The bottom line was that I still got my tank filled for free. It just will take me a few weeks to get it back. At this point that's fine. For the future I may get a bigger tank from them and let them swap them out. Who knows ....

I swap out two 5lb tanks and a 20lb tank @ Air-Gas.  Once I had a bottle with mud packed into the outlet, and several times I've had "light " bottles, one had a bad valve the other was just short of liquid/gas.  I use the 20 for carbonating kegs, filtering and cleaning.  I have one 5lb hooked into the refrigerator/ kegerator and one for a spare or the freezer/ lager box once it's moved to the garage.
