DOGFISH HEAD BREWPUB, 320 REHOBETH AVE, REHOBETH BEACH, DE

DOGFISH’S claim off “off centered ales for off centered people” well applies to their menu as well.  But don’t be steered off!  Their food is wonderful, service very good and a good pub atmosphere.
I started with a glass of “Old School” an aged barleywine.  Heady alcohol aroma, zero bitterness, surprisingly smooth and tongue numbing after a few sips.  Menu states 18 – 20% ABV.  Believe it!
Next I had “Indian Brown Ale”, one of my favorite brews, but first time drought.  Cleaner flavor to my taste, a bit more hoppy than bottled.  Still a wonderful brown ale!
My fishing trip partner first had “Punkin Ale”.  A very nice October Fest marzen with a hint of pumpkin pie spice, nice light orange color.  Not to my taste but a good version of style.  I actually prefer Appalachian Brewing Co.’s version.
Next up she tried the “Count Chocula” chocolate stout.  Good Chocolate aroma with just a hint of hops, nice chocolate flavor, slightly sweet but not too sweet.  This brew ages sitting on dark chocolate in the fermenter.
I left with a new growler for my slowly growing collection, full of “Chicory Stout”.  A BIG coffee stout.  This is my favorite style and DOGFISH HEAD’S version is a winner!  Loaded with body, great coffee flavor, minimal bitterness but not overly sweet.  A very good brew!!

  CHEERS!!

The Chicory Stout makes Guiness look like water.  It is a very big beer!

Re-visit to Rehobeth Beach & Dogfish Head Brew-Pub!  This time I had the Crabcake lunch plater, my friend had the Pulled Pork Sandwich.  Both were very good, the Pulled Pork was fantastic!!  We sampled a total of 5 beers & one of my favorites, Indian Brown Ale.  More on the others when I find my notebook!

Still haven't found my notebook, so we decided to buy more!!  I tried the:

  1.  90 minute IPA.  First off, I have never enjoyed a hoppy beer, until now!  Bottled, 12 oz.  Poured at 39 degrees temp, despite low temp, still poured smooth with 1" head.  Nose, dry hopped!!  Head down to 1/4 inch after a few minutes, then 1/8th.  Nice lacing on cleaned glass.  Ring of lace at every "sip".  Dry hopping disguises alcohol taste, for a minute or so.  This is a strong beer!  Despite intense hopping, this is a smooth beer, very easy to drink!!  This is in my top 5 beers, I freakin Love it!!  can't wait to try to make this!
