Extract Brewing is a great way to make very tasty beer every time!  I just made 3 extract brews, Cooper Irish Stout, Pilsner and BrewFerm Wheat.  Additional LME and hops were added to all.
  What are you brewing!

Tonight I finished my Coopers Pilsner.  It seemed as though refrigerator lagering had really improved this beer, and it seemed to go really, REALLY fast.  Tonight I found out why!!
The bottom 25% or so was ICE!  No wonder it only took a few to catch a great buzz!  Remember beer fans, alcohol does not freeze!

Yes!  It was gone way too early!  I'll have to wait until I can empty my chest freezer (future lagering chest) to make more danget!

My Brewferm Irish Stout is really tasting good!!  Nice creamy head, lacy leftovers on the glass & a nice Dry finish.  I put a stick on thermometer on the keg.  BINGO!!  The bottom of the keg is 29 degrees.  Looks like I made another Ice Brew!!  oh dARN,  Grin

Yes it's been a while!  I made starters tonight to make 2 batches of Octoberfest Vienna Lager & 1 for a partial extract Porter.  All the required equipment is soaking in PBW.  Just need to measure out the grains & hops for the Porter.  I should be able to do all three tommorrow.  I'll update this post then!

Cheers!

Update #1  The yeast that came with the MrBeer kits is not working in the starter(it expired in June). I'm going to pitch a vial of WhiteLabs #WLP351 Bavarian Weizen Yeast.  It also is expired....... 7/11.  It is working almost instantly!!
Update #2  The Starter is not working, expired yeast.  I repitched with Edinburg Ale Yeast, good till 3/12!

I'll start today with the Octoberfest Marzen.

I can't wait to start that stout kit I got the other day.  I also picked up a Gran Cru Chianti wine kit to start as well.  I got to count those bottles before I start to make sure I will have enough.  This wine is dry so it should not raise my sugar very much.

Brewed 2 Octoberfest Marzen's today, one with Red Raspberry Puree.  Both went without a hitch.  I'll try out my wort areator when I pitch the yeast,  Should be cool enough by one o'clock!

Problems!  I made my starter with LME and Fermex Yeast starter.  It smelled like amonia!  When I repitched the yeast, both vials were good yet my starters are DOA.  I'll make new starters today, with out the fermex.

Update!  I made a 2 quart starter w/ 8 oz DME & White Labs #830, set it on a stir plate for 1 hour.  Good activity.  So I split it between the 2 batches.  The Octoberfest Lager is active, The Raspberry is not yet but should before long.  OG: 1.054 on the Octoberfest.  OG: 1.073 on the Raspberry.

Update: Friday 8:AM, Raspberry now working!
Update: Friday 4:PM, Raspberry beer in airlock!  I'll put in a fesh airlock.

Brewing as soon as Bullion Hops arrives: Robust American Porter, Partial Mash.  I "adjusted" a recipe I found at Beer Recipe.org to utilize ingredients I have on hand with the exception of the fresh hops.  The Bullion hops gives a black currant flavor which I thought would be a great addition & complexity.  I'm make the starter today,  .. without the fermex!
I was hopeing the Bullion would come today, it didn't.  So I'll make the first batch with Northern Brewer.

Wow,  Those should be some good brews.  I can't wait to get my next one started as soon as this one in done.  I have never made a dark beer before.  I am deffentantlly using a stater for this one.  I also have a wine kit to start too.  I may have to start ordering online since it is a pain to go to the store all the time from WV.

Yea, I checked HB4L for the Bullion Hops and a couple other things.  He was either out of stock or un-able to get.  Very few shops carry the Bullion Hops.  Rebel Brewer online has a pretty good selection, and they ship very fast.  I would not buy grain or LME online as the shipping would get crazy fast!!  I'm starting a shopping list, it'll have 50+ pounds of grain.

That is a lot of grain.  I am kind of limited on space at my house, so I can only make one brew at a time.  I quess we are lucky to have a store relatively close to avoid shipping cost.  I have looked at every homebrew supply can find online, and most things he has at the store.  Its already 0130 and I have looked at stores all over the us and germany.  There so many things I would like to try, but it takes money and time.
