How The Still Spirits “Turbo 500″ “T500″ works

Distillation is the basis of separation based on boiling points, purely for example, water has a boiling point of 100°C, ethanol (alcohol) has a boiling point of ~78°C and methanol ~65°C. In a gas (steam) form these chemical substances can exceed this temperature in the right conditions, but will return to liquid when they come back down below their boiling points.

The new T500 Reflux condenser works on the principles of ceiling temperatures, where through its intelligent design it prevents chemical substance above a certain boiling point being processed. Unlike other reflux condensers on the market the Still Spirits T500 works with a focus on the water flow and controlling the temperature of the water flow out. Assuming that the temperature of the water flow is stable, it is able to create a ceiling threshold temperature based on the water flow out. So effectively, If you are looking at collecting a product of a boiling point of ~78°C, water flow out would be set just to collect everything up to this temperature, then prevent any other products with a boiling point above ~78°C up the reflux and into the condenser.

This technology break through was only developed through the redesigning of the contemporary reflux, designed to make distillation easier with hassle free operation. It’s designed to set and forget as it operates until exhaustion, requiring simple initial setup with water flow and turning off once distillation is complete.

The optional Still Spirits EZ FILTER System provides a complete solution for filtering distilled spirit. This Carbon filter system is a specially formulated filter cartridge with no powdered granules making it easier to use.

Cost of operation

The unit runs on a 2kw element, depending on the ingredients, will vary the operation time but between 4-5 hours is the general rule with a full run. At $0.13kwh, the unit cost a insignificant $1.30 in power consumption to operate, this is opposed to other forms of distillation units requiring LPG gas which can be quite expensive after 5 hours of operation.

Cost of final product

This will vary depending on what you are making in terms of whiskey or liqueurs, also the varying qualities available. But working on the highest quality and most recommended blend of ingredients you are looking at approximately $10 per 750ml bottle which is equivalent to a $60+ triple distilled commercial grade alcohol bought from your everyday liquor outlet. Higher and lower alcohol quality grades can be achieved, but there is a sliding scale quality for quantity.

This figure has been fully aggravated to consider all aspects of cleaning, fermenting, distilling and blending of your drink.

Looking more detailed at ingredients

The use of premium ingredients will not only increase the quality of the end product, but will increase the ease of use of the distillation products. Providing you use very high quality ingredients ( 6KG of Corn Sugar and Still Spirits Triple Distilled Turbo Yeast) there is no need to discard the first 50mls that is associated with other stills, as these yeasts produce one tenth of the methol and impurities during initial fermentation. Thus, any remaining impurities will be removed with the combination of the high % T500 reflux and the still spirits carbon filtration system.

It should be noted that a reflux will only increase the concentration not change quality the product is, high quality product in equals high quality out. Low quality yeasts and sugars can create compounds that produce undesired substances that have very close boiling points to the ~78°C in addition to high levels of methol ~65°C that can carry across and can fool the reading equipment used to test % of product. Spirit Hydrometers work on density and are only accurate when measuring pure spirit and water

Super Simple & Tasty Fruit Liqueur Recipe

Here’s a really simple fruit liqueur recipe that will work with any kind of fruit that you should definitely give a try!
Ingredients:
? 26 oz bottle of Vodka
? 4 Cups of finely granulated sugar
? Enough cut up fruit to fill a 128 oz glass pickle jar (plus a little more)
What You Need To Do:
1. Cut the fruit into small pieces (e.g. rhubarb 1/2 inch pieces, dice up apples, pears, apricots, strawberries,
cherries – can be left whole but best if skin is cut to allow the juices out).
2. Freeze the fruit overnight as this kills the pectin and also stops it from fermenting (will save you from having
the bottle blowup in your fridge) .
3. Place the frozen fruit into the 128 oz glass pickle jar, add 4 cups of granulated sugar (the sugar will run
down between the fruit pieces or pour some in while filling the jar).
4. Pour in a 26 oz bottle of Vodka into the jar, add/push more fruit into the jar until the liquid is almost to the
very top of the jar (approx. 3/4 of an inch), seal jar with the lid.
5. Everyday for 6 weeks, turn the jar upside down and shake it (sugar should be suspended and not on the
bottom of the jar).
6. After the six weeks, strain off the liquid, you should get about 2-3 bottles of tasty fruit liqueur.
7. Depending on the fruit, it actually can be eaten, and is great on ice cream – so is the liqueur.
8. If you leave the bottles upright for a few weeks, the liqueur will settle out, siphon off into clean bottles. The
more this is done the clearer the liqueur will be.
